Rakesh Patel, MD
Dr. Patel graduated with honors in premedical studies from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana, and received his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He joined the UW Radiation Oncology faculty and led the Breast cancer clinical and research program where he was the recipient of two Komen Foundation research grants for targeted breast radiation. Dr Patel has a special interest in targeted radiation therapy with brachytherapy and radiosurgery. He has published over 50 manuscripts and 100 meeting abstracts. He has given over 75 invited national & 28 international lectureships and visiting professorships on Targeted Radiation and 3D-HDR Brachytherapy around the world including China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Australia, India, and multiple European countries. He was elected as the 2010 President of the American Brachytherapy Society and leads several patient and physician training initiatives. He moved to community practice in the Silicon Valley in 2008 and currently serves as the Director of Radiation Oncology at the Targeted Radiation Institutes for VMOC in Pleasanton and Los Gatos, California.
